We had a scorching hot weekend recently and took a family afternoon trip to Silvermine dam. My mom, sisters, brother in law, the girls and I. We walked all around the dam first (pram accessible) then found a shady spot to sit and swim. The water was lovely and I can't understand why we don't go there more often. We're planning a day braai or picnic next time. NEWS !! My husband was offered an amazing job opportunity in Pretoria. After much deliberation we decided to move. He started 7 January already. I'm staying in Cape Town with the girls till the end of term 1 so until the Easter weekend I'm a single working mom. Its day 3 and I'm so tired already. The major challenge seems to be getting time to cook or bath one child while the other is occupied. Especially since L is rather clingy at the moment. Next week I'm back to work and L will start day care at B's school. We went to the zoo in the holidays. It's really big and we only managed to do the bottom section before nap time. Next time we'll take the cable car or a golf cart to the top section and do that. There's loads of kiosks with food and a restaurant, jungle gyms, grass, it's definitely a lovely day outing. The kids had fun and all fell asleep in the car on the way home. The only complint I have is that the zoo does not sell year tickets, so going often will be too pricey. Her teeth are driving her crazy. Me too, actually. For the past 6 weeks my amazing 11 hour a night sleeper makes 5 hours max and usually less. I've resorted to night feeds and she wakes 2 or 3 times a night to drink. And she still has No teeth. It looks like all 6 bottom ones are coming at once (but its looked like that for 2 weeks already). Some days she's so miserable I keep her on pain meds other days are less frustrating for her, She really struggles, she's my sensitive child. When she isn't chewing her fingers or anything close enough to chew, she's crying or pulling her ear and her hair. She constantly wants to be held by me and I'm officially exhausted. She is eating well aside from a few bad days when her gums were too sore to eat until after a dose of calpol. I've just started her on beef mince and mixed veg. She thinks it's ok. But her new favorite is fruit with double cream greek yoghurt. She also mnaged to get hold of a finger biscuit the other day and enjoyed it thoroughly. Bester birds in Pretoria is definitely worth visiting. For your entrance fee each person gets a tub of food to feed to the petting animals. B's favourite was the rabbits. There are a huge assortmant of birds and animals including crocodiles and mountain lion. There's also a sandpit with a jungle gym for snack and play time. The four of us descended on my bbf and sil (sister in law) (same person), her hubby and twin two year old boys.
It was an enjoyable holiday, not as much fun as before having kids (the good old days of sleeping in and going anywhere anytime) as we couldn't fit Shel and me with all our kids in one car so were often stranded at home with our kids (while the men played golf). We did manage an outing to the zoo and Bester birds (posts to follow). B adores her cousins and they splashed in the pool, fought and played together. L watched from the sidelines. Christmas was lovely, we had a sosatie spit with chicken, gammon and lamb. I met my hubbies aunts, uncles, cousins and B had another couple cousins to play with. The kids were thoroughly spoilt by Santa and spent most of the next few days playing and fighting over their new toys. |
